It’s All About the Long Term

If you decide to adopt cash games on www.betfairpoker.com as your poker vehicle of choice, then you need to understand that the game never ends.

It is true that you sit down to play short sessions and then leave either ahead or behind, but if you want to be a winning player, you need to adjust your way of thinking.

In the short term, luck wears the crown; luck is the king. So, if you sit down with an expectation to make money, in the short term, you may be disappointed. The edge that skill gives you does not materialise in the short term.

Instead, the little edges that you hammer home come to fruition over the long run. It seems that skill prefers the marathon, whilst luck likes the 100m sprints.

In a way, it is very similar to financial advice that you would receive from the likes of Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki. The get rich quick schemes are rare.

Fortunes are made over the long term. It is not how much money you make that makes you rich, but how much of it you can keep.

Understanding that you should play poker for the long run should not constitute a change in approach. Your goal should always be to play each hand optimally and avoid making mistakes.

If you develop the mindset to choose to play every hand the right way, then the long-term results will show a profit for you. Thinking short term just causes you to tilt and to play your hands less optimally.
