Excalibur to replace Live Poker Dealers with Electronic Poker Tables
I found it somewhat strange to find out that The Excalibur in Las Vegas will be closing their traditional poker tables, eliminating Live Dealers and going to all electronic poker tables. August 18 will be the last day poker players will be able to play poker with Live Dealers, and August 22 will be the first day of operation of the new electronic poker tables. They will be using the Poker Tek brand of electronic poker tables.
I’m not so sure I like the idea of this myself, although I don’t plan to go to the Excalibur anytime soon. When I go to a Casino, I’d like to play live poker. If I want to play electronic poker, I could stay home and play poker online.
Are they doing this as purely a financial decision to save money by not having to pay for dealers?
This may attract more young poker players would play more poker online, but I have a feeling traditional poker players will not be playing poker at the Excalibur anymore after August 18.

January 8, 2010 at 10:42 amI have played on these electronic tables and feel the same way as everyone else seems to. When I go to a casino I want to have cards, chips, and a dealer. I do not want to sit at the table staring at computer screens, we can all do that from the comforts of our own home.
I also felt like I was less in-tuned to the game because of the electronic set-up. For whatever reason I was not paying as much attention to the other players at the table as I normally would. I’m sure if I spent more time playing on these machines I would do a better job observing but it still just isn’t the same. I want cards to hold and chips to shuffle!

October 5, 2009 at 7:20 pmWe have some electronic tables in Tunica, but its just not the same. If I’m goign to do that I may as well play on the net. I have heard that the cruise ship ones are cool, and they make more sense there. I just don’t get real casinos trying it tho

A Las Vegas poker dealer, who for obvious reasons did not want to give his name, had conflicting reactions while trying out the new electronic poker tables at the Excalibur.
As a dealer, he hated the 10-player tables which are fully automated and do not require cards, chips or a dealer. In other words, one less casino job.
As a poker player participating in a low-limit cash game, though, he found the tables easy to maneuver and faster than live games.
“I played on these tables before on a cruise ship,” the dealer commented. “They are very advantageous for the player. There are never any misdeals. I think we’ll see a lot more of these games.”

August 13, 2008 at 10:13 pmNot having to leave a tip for the dealers anymore is something many have said they liked about the idea. It is good if you get to go home with more money in your pocket, but removing all traditional poker tables and going to all electronic doesn’t even give anyone a choice if they want to play on live tables or electronic ones. If you want to play poker at the Excalibur you can only play on electronic poker tables. If the regulars don’t like it, they can go play poker elsewhere.
