Well Rod I give you anything you want to know about it but first off I would like to say as also a fellow coder thanks for the userprofiles module for DNN. I have a few posts over there still awaiting an answer from you by the way. =) Ok now I am a firm believer in Karma so I tip on every pot. A dollar a hand is good but I like to bribe my fate a little and try 10% on every hand. Now that for me goes for big pots too and you are right a bit on my analogy on the stock broker because there are different kinds of brokers. Also right on the casino taking money for a house rake but a lot of the rake goes back into what is called a players pool. This money is used to create things like big freerolls or bad beat jack pots and other misc give aways. As far as tournaments here the house takes usually $5 per entry fee for the house and $5 for what is called dealer appreciation. Now some people think that that takes care of dealers but some times it does not. To break it down a bit look at 20 dealers dealing a tournament that has 200 players. Now that might look like the dealers will get 50$ a piece but the way it breaks down is money / downs / dealers. Downs are how many times a table is…

Great view point from the other side of the table, thanks for that! Ok, so I do not often play in casinos (we play in our own home poker league and pass the dealer) - I have to be honest, I have no clue on tipping ettiquete and how much and when to tip the dealer (I live in Australia, I know the US tip at bars and resturants all the time, in Aus you don't tip at bars and you only tip for food if service is good). I'm not sure about your analogy of the stock broker - an Execution-Only stock broker gets a small fee but offers no help on the trade. This is like a dealer, who should not be helping any player, merely executing the "trade" or deal. The payment is the house rake that you are paying to play in that venue is it not? This is a % of the tourney entry that goes towards the establishment. One might say it is the establishments responsibility to pay it's employees (I'm playing devil's advocate here). So, please enlighten me as to how and when one should tip (I assume it is only on big winning pots and is it relative to the size of your current stack? Do you tip if you are short-stacked?) - although maybe this should be a new blog post - When and how to tip.... ;) Actually,…

Very annoying - they don't mention this or make it obvious when you sign up - this is why I closed my account and will cost them way more in lost business by publicizing this...

Hi I just noticed that I'd been deleting these inactive account mails and I've been deducted a total of $54! What annoys me most is the subtlety of the email's subject. I had been deleting them because I KNOW my account is inactive, and I didn't care. The subject should surely mention a FEE! If I read every seemingly pointless poker email I got, I wouldn't have time to play poker. The irony is, I was about to deposit $500 and play poker - but now they really can forget about that! The way I play and the way they rake, they have just lost a lot of money by alienating me, and I really hope it's the case with other players. Don't they realise that even an inactive player is still likely to play sometime - we're addicted to poker after all! Whoever thought of this idea is a fool, although I guess they might be making good money from it - i don't know the stats, I'm jjust thinking of my case.

I did - it took about 13 weeks but they sent a check and it cleared. the book is way to big to re nig on payment. I do wish they would add some other payment options tho as 2 1/2 months is way to long.

The book improved my game so it was worth the read. My quam here is in the last chapter he talks about percentages in the money and what is attainable and sustainable. I ran the numbers based on 300 single table $22 buy ins and with the percentages he says you should be in the money and how often you should take 1st, 2nd and 3rd it adds up to a losing player. I'm not sure if those numbers he was saying was a typo or a misquote but they definately do not add up to a winning player. Otherwise it was a quick, easy and understandable read. Good luck at the tables!

the hardest part of this problem is admitting to ourselves that yes, indeed we are addicted. Once we admit it, we can start to minimize and try to find ways on how to deal with it. If you need help from family, friends and even professional to deal with this, then do so.

The free poker tournaments like this can be really good practice. Obviously it is for beginner and amateur poker players, but it can still be a lot of fun. Playing poker without the fear of loosing a lot of money can sometimes be more fun then the high dollar pay in tournaments. Gaining experience through small tournaments like this could really improve your poker skills and head you in the right direction of becoming an expert oker player.
