Sydney Poker League – First game of 2009

Last night marked the start of the 2009 season of the Sydney Poker League! Morgs quickly established the fine form he did not show at all in 2008 and blasted his way to 2 firsts, a second and a third, earning him 19 points and top spot on the new league table.

If he were Irish then this would soundly reinforce the old anecdote cos he jammed his way on the river on most hands (especially against oldcomer Rod, who could not seem to win despite having statistically the best hand in many pots).

Indeed, perhaps the old anecdote is a pile of snot as local Irish (controversial?) boy Jeff O Rourke faded into oblivion, almost causing him to give up the game to sighs of relief the table over. Unfortunately he caught a whiff of Rod’s Coke Zero and GlenFidditch which was enough to secure him a win to keep the dream alive. I’m sure everyone agrees that a sober Jeff is better for the league table but he seemed to be paid by the word (including whale noises).

It’s early days in the Manly Poker League and despite it being “Year of the Leedy” (apparently) it’s anyone’s game at this stage.

This season the league scoreboard is being sorted on Average Points and NOT average winnings like last year. So this means that all points are consistient despite the prize pot (Olly’s move up the charts at the last $50 game was highly controversial and almost started a riot).
