Hello,
Are you frustrated with the options of games around town where corruption, collusion and over raking are standard operating procedure? Do you ever wonder why just about every game around town only offers cash games, and not high quality tournaments (other than the little "free-rolls" just designed to get players to the tables). I'll tell you why. Because cash games are exponentially more lucrative than tournaments and these games are BIG business. Every once in a while a game runner will host a tournament, but the only purpose for doing so is to recruit more players for their cash games. If you're like me and are frustrated by these limited options and have a true love and respect for the purity of the game...read on...
Let's do some math:
Average # of hands per hour - 35
Average rake per hand - $5 (often more, but I'll be conservative)
That equates to $175.00 leaving the table every hour.
Multiplied by let's say a 5 hour session and that's $875.00 leaving the table every session
Multiplied by 4 nights per week - $3500 per week in the pocket of the game runners
How many players do you know who win $175/hr, $875 every session and $3500/wk at these home games?
Answer - No one. The only consistent winners at these games are the game runners themselves.
Even still, most players love playing so much and their options are so limited, they ignore this simple fact just to play, although they cannot possibly win consistently when $175 or more is leaving the table every hour. I love the game of poker. To me it is an art form and should be respected and kept pure. Therefore, I am proposing an alternative.
I would like to start a bi-weekly (every other week) tournament every other Sunday starting at 2 p.m. This tournament will be focused on players who truly love and respect the game and who want to be challenged while also improving their play. Once play is concluded, players can discuss hands academically in a safe environment designed to help everyone improve. Once we form a consistent core of players, we can then plan trips to casinos as a tournament team which would be very fun and potentially very profitable.
This is not a business venture for me and I am not looking to make an income like the other game runners around town. I simply want to provide a better alternative to those who truly love and respect the game and who are tired of the big rakers around town.
If you're interested, write me and let's talk.
Best regards,
Scoopsman
