To assess a home poker game in Washington, start with Washington Revised Code, Chapter 9.46. Review the player, professional-gambling and authorized-activity provisions. Read the private-player provisions separately from those governing licensed card-game businesses.
Before hosting or joining, confirm:
- Which player or authorized-activity provision applies, and does the host's role become professional gambling or need a license?
- Do the rules cover this private residence, club, business or public event?
- How do rake, seat fees, required purchases, donations or other organizer benefits affect the game?
- What limits or conditions apply to wagers, player winnings, entry fees and prizes?
- What age and other participation requirements apply?
Use the official source to identify the applicable conditions and effective amendments. A private venue or game without rake is only part of the assessment.
General information only. Check the current law and obtain local advice about your particular arrangements.
