South Carolina's current code includes section 16-19-40 on unlawful games and betting. Section 16-19-60 contains a limited social-game exception for members of a club or social organization, including conditions requiring no betting, wagering or gambling and no direct or indirect economic benefit.

This exception cannot be treated as permission for real-money home poker. It also sets conditions about the venue, social relationship, devices and equal risks apart from skill or luck.

Read Title 16, Chapter 19 and obtain advice about your venue, benefits, prizes and participant ages. Historical proposed bills do not establish current permission.

General information only. Check the current law and obtain local advice about your particular arrangements.
