To assess a home poker game in Minnesota, start with Minnesota Statutes section 609.75. Review sections 609.75 and 609.76, including effective amendments. The Revisor's page supplies the definitions and identifies amendments. Check private-bet wording and offenses together, including newer laws' effective dates.
Before hosting or joining, confirm:
- Is the activity a private bet under the current definition, or part of organized, commercial or systematic gambling?
- Do the rules cover this private residence, club, business or public event?
- How do rake, seat fees, required purchases, donations or other organizer benefits affect the game?
- What limits or conditions apply to wagers, player winnings, entry fees and prizes?
- What age and other participation requirements apply?
Use the official source to identify the applicable conditions and effective amendments. A private venue or game without rake is only part of the assessment.
General information only. Check the current law and obtain local advice about your particular arrangements.
