Maryland distinguishes some gambling conduct from providing premises or organizing activity. The betting, wagering and gambling conduct described in Criminal Law section 12-103 is a civil offense. The maximum fine is $500 when the money or property involved is worth $100 or less, and $1,000 when it is worth more than $100.

Section 12-102 separately addresses premises and other organizing conduct and includes criminal penalties.

Before arranging a game, check the venue, host's role, fees or other benefit, stakes and participant ages against section 12-103 and section 12-102. The actual game needs its own assessment.
